One life saved by the game of baseball

For those of you that have spent an afternoon at Wrigley Field in Chicago watching the Cubs play, you may have heard a very distinct “Woooo….Woooo…..Woooo”  noise coming from the stands.  If so, you’ve just witnessed the # 1 Cub’s fan, Ronnie ‘Woo Woo’ Wickers, cheering on his beloved Cubbies.

Ronnie Wickers was born on the South Side of Chicago and was abused both physically and mentally by his mother.  Thanks to his Grandmother’s determination to help Ronnie lead a better life, she inspired hope in Ronnie by introducing him to the game of baseball.  A young Ronnie becomes inspired after watching Jackie Robinson play at Wrigley Field and dedicates his life to the Chicago Cubs.

Ronnie’s story now comes to life thanks to the effort of documentary filmmaker, Paul Hoffman and the release of the DVD Woo Life.  Hoffman has spent the last 7 years working on the documentary.  Woo Life tells the story of Ronnie “Woo Woo” Wickers and the ups and downs of his life including a 7 year stretch of homeless living in a cardboard box below the streets of Chicago.  Through all of the adversity, Ronnie continues to exude a spirit and optimism that inspires so many.

To learn more about Woo Life, you can visit:  www.woolife.com or view the You Tube video below.  A percentage of the proceeds from the film will be donated to the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless and Mercy Home for Boys & Girls.

Thanks Tom for shining a light on the film and the charities! You see the profound and wonderful parallels between the game of baseball and the game of life in the film. It’s a WooLife!
